Visionary Important Service Notice - MacBook Pro Mid 2012

Visionary Important Service Notice - MacBook Pro Mid 2012

Apple has identified an issue affecting the MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) models. The hard drive flex cable may fail causing the computer’s performance to suffer or present a startup error. Visionary Computer is authorized to replace the hard drive flex cable, even if the existing cable has not failed, on all eligible MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) models, free of charge. Visionary Computer recommends that all customers who own a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) model have the service performed as soon as is convenient. Please read below for common questions and answers about this free service.

Q.) How can I tell if I’ve got a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) model?
A.) The MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) models are the last MacBook Pro Apple offered with a CD/DVD drive. They were sold from June of 2012 until they were discontinued in October of 2016. One way to be sure is to simply go up to the Apple Menu, choose “About this Mac”, The window which appears should tell you the model (see below in the highlighted box). Alternatively you can call or email us with your computer’s serial number and we will check for you.

Q.) How long will I be without my computer if I have the service performed?
A.) In large part, that will depend on our repair queue, which changes constantly throughout the day. Our normal comprehensive repair turnaround time is 1-2 days however as a special option for customers who ONLY want the free cable replacement, we are scheduling 1 hour repair drop-off then pickup slots. Contact us to schedule your repair and we can complete the cable replacement in just one scheduled hour. These special appointments must be scheduled in advance.

Q.) Is this really free?
A.) Yes, the replacement cable and service is completely free of charge for qualifying computers.

Q.) Can I have you look at other issues while you are fixing the cable issue?
A.) We would be happy to perform whatever services you require however that would be outside the scope of the free service. For issues beyond the cable, computers would need to be checked in to our repair queue. Standard diagnostic fees and wait times would apply.

Q.) When does this quality program expire?
A.) June 10th 2017 or three years from the original date of purchase, whichever is longer. We recommend all customers with qualifying MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) models have the service performed so please consider bringing it in for service sooner than later as some units will become ineligible after June 10th of 2017.

Q.) Do I need to do anything before I bring my computer in for the service?
A.) Visionary Computer would always recommend that all customers run a full backup before any service is performed. If you don't have a Time Machine compatible backup drive, we can help you select one, provide it, and even run the backup for you before starting your repair.
